"Referrals closed" means we confirmed the person actually reached a clinic or hospital. The gap between raised and closed is the honest measure of what we still get wrong — closing it is our single biggest operational priority.

This is the number the whole organisation exists for. Oral cancer caught at stage I or II is usually survivable; caught at stage IV it usually is not.

How we count

Methodology, in plain language

A camp is one supervised session at one location on one day, with at least one qualified dentist present, a taught education component, and documented examinations. A three-day corporate drive counts as three camps. A stall with no examinations counts as zero.

Within a reporting year, no — repeat visits to an adopted village are recorded against the same household roll. Across years, yes: a child screened in three consecutive annual school camps appears in all three years' figures. We report annual reach, not unique lifetime individuals, and we say so rather than quietly inflating.

Only histopathologically confirmed malignancies from our referral pathway are counted, and only where we received written confirmation from the treating centre. Suspicious lesions that were referred but never confirmed are reported separately as referrals, never as detections.

Every figure on this page is read from a single file — assets/data/impact.json — which the operations team updates each quarter. The map, the counters and the state breakdown all derive from it, so the site cannot show two different totals for the same thing.

Help us move these numbers

Every figure on this page went up because somebody gave a weekend, opened a door or funded a van.
