Mobile Dental Units

A fully equipped dental clinic that drives to the hamlets, tea gardens and hill blocks where the nearest dentist is sixty kilometres away.

🚐 Overview

What this programme is

There are parts of India where the honest answer to 'where is your nearest dentist' is a bus, a change, and most of a day's wages. For those places, a camp with a folding chair is not enough — you need a chair, a compressor, a light and suction.

A mobile dental unit is the difference between screening people and actually treating them. It is also the single most expensive thing we operate, which is why units are sponsored individually.

What is included

Every time we run it

  • A fully equipped dental chair with light, suction, compressor and autoclave sterilisation on board
  • Same-day treatment for the findings that a camp can only refer: extractions, restorations, scaling
  • Digital records synced back to the village or school roll
  • Scheduled routes so communities know when the van returns, rather than hoping
  • Solar or generator power for locations with no reliable supply
  • Full infection-control protocol — a mobile unit holds the same standard as a fixed clinic, without exception
Who it is for

Three main hosts

Remote hamlets

Communities more than 30 km from the nearest practising dentist.

Tea gardens & plantations

Large resident workforces with almost no dental access.

Hill & island blocks

Where terrain, not distance, is the real barrier.

How it runs

Four steps on the ground

01

Plan the route

Fixed, published routes on a repeating cycle. Predictability is what makes people turn up.

02

Screen and treat

Unlike a camp, findings can often be resolved the same day.

03

Sterilise on board

Autoclave cycles run in the van between patients. No compromise, ever.

04

Return

The route repeats. A single visit to a remote village achieves very little.

💡 Sponsoring a mobile unit is the largest single gift we accept, and the one that changes the most. Each van serves roughly 2,500 people a year and lasts many years. Talk to us if this interests you.
